Being a content Management System WordPress allows you to manage the content on your website, this includes web pages and blog posts.
Although WordPress was originally a blogging platform in the last few years it has developed into a system which can be used to control every aspect of your website. Sixty million websites now use WordPress – that’s one in six worldwide!
The enormous popularity of WordPress can be attributed to several things:
WordPress is very straight forward and easy to use: No knowledge of HTML or web design is necessary in order to make changes to your website. You can simply make changes as you please. So if you want to alter the text on your landing page or add a photo to your “About” page you can do it. This way you have control over your website and can make updates as the need arises.
WordPress is very strong: There are a myriad of plug-ins available on WordPress, these are useful tools for expanding the functionality of the WordPress platform. So if you want a specific function on your site you simply add one of the WordPress plug-ins. Whether it is being able to sell your product from the site, showing the local time or your Facebook updates you can do it by installing a WordPress plug-in.
Easily change the appearance of your WordPress site: The different appearances of WordPress sites are called themes. They are sets of files which determine your site’s appearance. When you start a new site you can choose which theme to use from a vast number options.
WordPress is free: WordPress offers the option of free hosting but this is best suited to personal blogs. If you’re starting a small business website it is preferable to have a custom WordPress site. Your own custom WordPress site will cost you only the hosting fee.
WordPress is Open Source: Open source means that WordPress code has been developed by software experts around the world and is made available to the general public for free.
WordPress is Search Engine Optimization Friendly: WordPress is optimized for search engines (SEO) so it gets more traffic than sites that are not optimized. There are a large number of SEO features already integrated in the WordPress platform. In addition there are a number of WordPress plug-ins which can expand your SEO even further.
In conclusion, WordPress is a superior platform, it is a functional and straightforward system that can be used to run your site. This is why a vast number of people and small businesses, including myself, have chosen to run their websites using WordPress. Quiet honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way!
